Developing High Performing Teams that Achieve
Organisations increasingly rely on teams to compete in a rapidly changing environment (work, project, or development teams). The ability of teams to perform at high levels and adapt quickly to escalating demands largely determine an organisation’s success. It is therefore critical that there is a common awareness of their organisation's wider goals which define the purpose and ways of working so that they can contribute directly to achieving these goals. However, despite the promise that is shown, teams do not always fulfil their expectations or the expectations that others have of them.
Understanding the differences between Team Building and Team Development is important when deciding on the most effective approach. When a new team is put together it is necessary to understand the stages that exist in building successful teams. It is equally important that there are clear objectives, an awareness of roles and responsibilities, standards of performance and evaluation of the achievements. In addition, the issues relating to interpersonal relationships are examined together with their impact and effect on the team’s progress. Where you have an existing team whose performance needs development to achieve its full capacity, it is essential to consider areas such as communication openness, how decisions are made, problem analysis effectiveness, and how the team members work with each other. Developing openness and trust is a key factor, together with recognising what the barriers to progress are within the team, and how they can be overcome.
Our Approach
Organisations need the opportunity to consider their own needs rather than trying to impose models which may not be appropriate. A typical approach is to spend time with the team members in the workplace to collect, analyse and understand the issues before designing the programme. We help diagnose the team's needs and also offer direct feedback which can help team members understand their behaviour and start to modify it appropriately. Using a combination of the leading psychometric questionnaires, activities and personal feedback to develop awareness of self and others in the team. Feedback is carried out with the team members on an individual basis. Our programme is designed in partnership with the team leader and team members to ensure that the programme meets the needs of the team and the organisation. They focus on the real business issues faced by your teams.
