What do we Mean by Performance Management
It is 'a method which contributes to the effective management of individuals and processes in order to achieve high levels of organisational performance.’
 Performance Management is a critical discipline underpinning superior business performance both at the strategic and operational (integrated) level. Fully realised, it is a holistic and continuous process that brings together all of the elements which make organisations successful. But for this very reason, it is complex and often misunderstood. Performance management is all-pervasive. It should provide a framework to help people operate, and to help them to help others to operate – and it needs structure in order to do this. Corporate strategic goals provide the starting point for business and departmental goals, leading to plans and objectives for all individuals. Yet many organisations fail to establish clear performance expectations for their major strategic initiatives. Where performance management succeeds it does so in the context of clear goals, clear focus and aligned leadership. True performance management is based on ensuring the right outcomes rather than simply measuring what is easy to measure. Using performance management to achieve strategic goals requires a link between strategic targets and organisational measures that are multi-faceted and cross functional.
